Initiation
If a person with a low/average life force suffers a mortal death,
the soul dies too. The only way around this is if someone uses
their own life force to keep the soul from dying at the moment
that the mortal death occurs. This process is most successfully
preformed by immortals.
This process has become a practice among the undead as a way
of initiating new immortals into the after life. In a usual initiation,
a human is killed by an immortal at their own will to become an
immortal themselves. The one who kills them is usually the one
who keeps their soul from dying and then becomes the fledglings
'maker'. Then the fledgling is adopted by an immortal, usually their
maker, and is taught the laws and how to control their new powers.
The one who adopts them is their 'surrogate parent'.
Almost all the undead were initiated into the after life in this way.
