Life Force/Energy

Life force is what keeps all living things alive. Each living creature is born with an extremely low life force, but has the ability to absorb external life force, adding to their own. Without taking in life force, infants exhaust the little amount they got from their mother very quickly. To exhaust ones life force is to die. By the age ten most humans have collected enough life force to last a life time and their ability to naturally absorb it creeps to a halt.

Life force is also what fuels supernatural powers. Humans who learn to use such powers as rapid tissue/cell regeneration or mind reading usually live a shorter life because they are using their life force to exercise these powers.

Also, stress and anxiety drain large amount of life force. But this isn't a problem, because people can learn to replenish life force. Through simple acts such as meditating or praying, people can learn to draw in external life force as they did when they were a child. Most people learn to take in external life force one way or an other to compensate for lost life force.

External life force is any life force existing outside of the individual. External life force exists in all other living things- plants, animals and humans. Taking in life force from either of these sources means that what ever you are leeching from lives shorter, but usually not dramatically.

When someone becomes undead, they no longer need their life force for living, so it can be used almost exclusively for supernatural powers. After death 'life force' becomes known as 'energy'. Immortals don't live with a heart beat or a steady flow of blood, they live with energy alone. To kill an immortal, one must drain them of their energy.

Gods and goddesses have crazy amounts of energy, and develop a gem-like outlet for their energy on their foreheads. This is to both expend and consume large amounts of energy with little effort.

Most morals derive their life force from external energy that exists independently of a body. When something/someone dies it's remaining life force leaves the body and just kind chills on earth. This kind of external energy is sometimes referred to as residual energy. Though it exists on almost every surface of the earth, residual energy tends to band together, forming lay-lines and places that are considered to be spiritual.
